Combine chopped and sliced fruits in a large serving bowl; toss gently. Sprinkle with sugar. Whisk together remaining ingredients in a small bowl or 1 cup measure. Pour dressing mixture over fruit and toss gently to combine. Cover and chill the fruit salad thoroughly before serving.
This fruit salad recipe makes enough to serve about 10 to 12 people.
Directions
Toss 3 peeled and thinly sliced cucumbers with 1 tablespoon salt in a bowl. Chill 1 hour, then drain and pat dry. Meanwhile, soak 3 tablespoons minced onion in cold water 15 minutes; drain. Mix 1 1/2 cups sour cream and 1 1/2 teaspoons sugar in a large bowl, then stir in the cucumbers, onion, some black pepper and 1/2 cup chopped pickled cherry peppers.
Dissolve gelatin in hot water; add cold water and the sugar. Stir for a few minutes, until sugar is dissolved. Chill until partially set. Fold in the orange segments, banana slices, grape halves, marshmallows, and chopped nuts. Pour into a 1 1/2-quart mold and chill until firm. Unmold onto a bed of lettuce or greens and decorate with more orange sections and grapes.
